ISO 17100 defines standards and requirements for professional translation services.
This standard places high demands on the linguistic skill of the service provider, linguistic style, as well as the consistency of terminology.
It provides clients with a reliable basis for comparison, and is, therefore, an important decision-making support aid.
ISO 17100 PROVIDES PEACE OF MIND
Every company follows its own procedures. Often, there simply isn’t any reliable basis for comparison. Certification can be an important decision-making support aid. DIN EN ISO 17100 defines requirements for professional translation services.
ISO 17100 defines the global requirements for high-quality translation services and places high demands on the linguistic skill of the service provider, linguistic style, as well as consistency of terminology. It also establishes a uniform definition of the basic principles of translation management.
The prerequisites for ISO 17100:
- Standardized process workflows and quality specifications
- Professional quality management and project management
- Well-defined procedures and documented evidence for the ongoing training of all relevant employees
- Expertise and development of project management
- Data protection of project-related client information
- The “four-eye principle” (translation by qualified translators and subsequent proofreading by equally qualified revisers)
- Expert translators require specialized knowledge and expertise
All employees involved in the area of translation services (translators, terminologists, project managers, etc.) must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- A recognized qualification from a higher education institution, majoring in translation
- A recognized qualification from a higher education institute in another field of study and at least two years’ professional experience as a translator
- At least five years’ full-time professional experience as a translator
